Bitcoin:
- BIP-322 author Karl-Johan Alm posted to the Bitcoin-dev mailing list an alternative proposal for message signing that would use a technique called virtual transactions. The advantage of virtual transactions is that they may work with existing software that’s configured to sign arbitrary transactions, including those in PSBT format.
Litecoin:
- On September 27th, 2020 at 06:01 UTC block 1,920,000 created the 66 millionth Litecoin! There are now less than 18 million Litecoin to be mined. The last Litecoin is estimated to be mined around 2142 due to the deflationary nature of the network. The current network inflation rate is 4.13% which equates to ~7,200 new LTC mined each day and the current network hashrate is 275 TH/s up 51% since the 65th millionth Litecoin.

Ethereum:
- Vitalik Buterin posts a Twitter thread on the short and medium term Ethereum scaling roadmap. Some of this includes: scaling with sharding + rollups will be possible in Phase 1, sharding is not cancelled, and more!
- The launchpad for the ETH2.0 Zinken testnet has launched. Become a validator and start pushing the ETH2.0 testnet forward.
- Ben Edgington, from ConsenSys, shares what is new in ETH2.0 as of October 2nd, 2020.
Other Chains:
- tBTC enables safe access to the Celo platform! Celo is designed to make it easy for anyone with a mobile device to send, receive and store stablecoins running on Celo.
- The Electric Coin Company shares an article detailing viewing keys which are detailed further in ZIP-310, enabling the separation of spending and viewing permissions for Zcash shielded addresses.
- Set Protocol’s first monthly rebalance of the DeFi Pulse Index completed on October 1st, 2020. The DPI Set now includes (UNI) as 13.8% of its composition.
- CoinList shares the Filecoin mainnet will be launching at block 148,888 which is expected to happen on October 15th, 2020.
- StarkWare pushed a new branch to the ethSTARK repo extending it to 128 bits of security. Up from Ethereum’s 80 bits security level to a “standard” AES/SHA/Blake security level.
- The Hackers Congress took place on October 2nd at Paralelni Polis in Prague, Czech Republic with talks ranging from Bitcoin maximalism, Monero tip integrations, and a Bitcoin privacy panel with Wasabi and JoinMarket. Here is the full YouTube recording.
- Chainlink brings on-chain Proof of Reserve to RenVM to their testnet with a soon to be mainnet launch. This will improve the transparency and auditability of cross-chain assets bridged into the DeFi ecosystem including renBTC, renBCH, and renZEC.
- Vance Spencer launches endaoment.org, the first Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) provider built entirely on Ethereum.
- The Aave Protocol Token Addition via the Community Sentiment Poll shares an update after the successful launch of AIP-1.
- MetaMask exceeds 1 million monthly active users in step with an announcement to perform token swaps directly within the Ethereum browser extension!
- Dark Forest, a decentralized rts game built with zk-SNARKs, launches v0.4 this past week!
- Gnosis Safe now supports WalletConnect. Users can now link their Safe Multisig to any DApp using WalletConnect including: Uniswap, 3box, Maker, Aave, and Gelato.
- SKALE mainet is now live! SKALE is pushing Ethereum with over 1000 decentralized elastic chains.
- ZeroSwap announces its layer-2 DEX based zk-rollup technology. ZeroSwap uses zk-rollups, more specifically zkSync, to transfer ERC-20 tokens to layer-2. All token transactions and exchanges take place in layer-2.
Mainstream Recap:
- The SEC orders Salt Lending to offer refunds to investors in it’s $47M ICO.
- As of October 1st, 2020 - eToro users can earn monthly staking rewards on Cardana and Tron using (ADA) and (TRX) respectively. The first wave of these staking rewards will be distributed in November.
- 0x provides a comprehensive analysis on DEX liquidity aggregators’ performance.
- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed a civil enforcement action in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, charging five entities and three individuals that own and operate the BitMEX trading platform with operating an unregistered trading platform. With this, the CFTC states they are violating multiple CFTC regulations, including failing to implement required anti-money laundering (AML) rules.
- The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) replies to the Reserve Bank of Australia and Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)’s statements to replace it’s aged Clearing House Electronic Subregister System (CHESS). In the reply, ASX states they have been working on a revised implementation schedule for their replacement which entails distributed ledger technology.
- Balancer (BAL) and Ren (REN) have now been listed on Coinbase in all supported jurisdictions with the exception of New York State.
- Jon Barry Thompson admitted in Manhattan federal district court that his crypto company, Volantis, never followed through with a $3.25M BTC buy. Thompson could face a maximum of 10-year prison terms for misrepresenting his companies’ bitcoin custody, control, and purchasing practices. Including wiring the cash to a third party without first allowing the customer to receive the bitcoin.
- Ripple Labs receives a patent for a smart contract that can use oracles to connect a distributed platform to a variety of different real-world data.
- Gemini announces the new offering custody for (WNXM). WNXM is a freely transferable wrapped version of NXM, the membership token native to Nexus Mutual.
- LongHash Ventures announces the launch of the Filecoin Frontier Accelerator, a 12-week program to fuel the growth of projects on the world’s largest decentralized storage network. Projects accepted to the Accelerator program will receive an upfront grant of $20K USD and will also be considered for further funding opportunities of $1M USD.
- In Europol’s recent Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA) 2020, they state that privacy-enhanced wallet services using CoinJoin concepts have emerged as a top threat in addition to centralized mixers.
- The FCA bans the sale of crypto-derivatives and exchange traded notes that reference certain types of crypto assets to retail consumers.
- Deposits and custody for Aave are now open on Gemini.
- CoinDesk reports that LVC, the crypto exchange operator and blockchain business unit of LINE, is launching a service that allows users to lend crypto to BitMax.
- Wyre and Gemini team up to help fortify the bridge between centralized finance and DeFi. As of today, October 7th, 2020 all Wyre partners and users will have access to GUSD across the Wyre platform.
