Bitcoin:
- Bitcoin active addresses have hit an all time high (200-day moving average) via CoinMetrics!
- The implementation of Gallant, Lambert, and Vanstone (GLV) endomorphism to speed up the verification of signatures in Bitcoin, which was first proposed by Hal Finney in 2011 and later implemented by Pieter Wuille has been restricted from use via the U.S. Patent 7,110,538. On September 25th, 2020 the patent expired, removing the legal uncertainty. A PR on the libsecp256k1 repo has now been opened to always use GLV endomorphism algorithm, which is expected to decrease the initial sync of Bitcoin Core significantly.
Ethereum:
- Ethereum Foundation releases Geth v1.9.22, Noverian Rum. This ships some minor features including one that can now raise your transaction gas prices.
- Vitalik Buterin posts on an open problem looking for an ideal polynomial commitment scheme that can be used for state storage constructions within Ethereum. He notes this does not block or slow down the active development on ETH2.0.
- Ethereum Cat Herders share another update on all things ETH2.0 and the latest remarks from the Core Devs Meeting.

- Blocknative introduces their Ethereum Mempool Explorer. This explorer is a net-new way to build real-time streams of in-flight transaction data to better handle vulnerabilities, arbitrage, opportunities, and complexity.
- Agoric releases the Alpha release which introduces their smart contract platform which enables JavaScript developers to start working on DeFi quickly.
