Bitcoin:
- Bitcoin Core v0.21 will support Tor V3 addresses and BIP-155, which supports gossiping these addresses over the network. Tor V2 addresses were deprecated last month and will be disabled in October 2021.
- BitMEX Research published a report examining the concept of brainwallets. In an experiment, eight Bitcoin private keys were created using passphrases from popular works of fiction. All funds were swept away in short periods of time with the fastest being 0.67 seconds.
Litecoin:
- Litecoin turned 9 years old on October 13th, 2020!!
Ethereum:
- The latest ETH2.0 phase 0, testnet Zinken is now live! Network participation is at 86% with 126,240 gETH staked.
- The v1.0.0-rc.0 release candidate for ETH2.0 has been published for client testing.
- Ethereum Cat Herders released their latest update summarizing the ETH2.0 Zinken launch, EIP-1559 community outreach, Berlin, YOLO v2/v3, and ETH1.0 client update.
- A community outreach was conducted to see the overall impression and awareness of EIP-1559. The findings are quite interesting with only 60% of these projects having positive feelings towards the improvement proposal.
- Vitalik Buterin publishes slides on EIP-1559 and Fee Structure.
- Sigma Prime announces the latest Lighthouse development update. This includes v0.3.0, ETH2.0 Standards API, Zinken support, BLS remote signer, and more.
Other Chains:
- MetaMask introduces MetaMask Swaps! Users can now seek out the best prices and swap tokens directly in the wallet.
- BlueWallet v5.6.1 is now out! This new release brings Payjoin support to the wallet via BIP-78. Payjoin is a type of CoinJoin where both the sender and receiver coordinate to build the transaction.
- StarkWare publishes a report on capital efficiency vs. security in _The Optimistic Rollup Dilema. _In the report StarkWare claims that Liquidity Providers will necessarily prefer a ZKR-Uniswap (Uniswap over ZK-Rollup) to an OR-Uniswap (Uniswap over an Optimistic Rollup).
- Certus One announces the Wormhole. A token bridge between Solana and Ethereum for ERC-20 and SPL tokens.
- A Lightning vulnerability was announced on October 9th, 2020 and the full details will be disclosed on October 20th, 2020. All community members are urged to upgrade to LND v.0.11.0 ASAP.
- Travala.com partners with Ocean Protocol to integrate OCEAN. Ocean token holders will be able to book over 2.2M hotels and homes in 230 countries with this partnership.
- Loopring announces that they have successfully submitted L2 AMM to add liquidity, remove liquidity, and swap transactions using Loopring v3.6 on Ethereum’s Goerli network.
- ParaSwap and StarkWare announce their partnership and integration to StarkEx. StarkEx will enable ParaSwap to offer inexpensive swaps at scale.
- Aztec releases Aztec v2.0, the layer-2 network - a scaling solution with privacy at its core. This includes: a ZK-Rollup based network, private sends by default, social-key recovery, scalable private access to DeFi, and more.
- Ocean Protocol’s founder, Trent McConaghy dives into the Ocean Protocol v3 Architecture Overview in the latest post from Ocean Protocol.
- Stellar releases the latest Stellar Dev Digest!
- Chorus One’s Anthem staking platform shares a walk through on how to stake one’s CELO tokens using Anthem with a Ledger.
- Cosmos releases the Cosmos SDK v0.40.0-rc0. This “Stargate” release introduces protocol buffers as the new standard serialization format for blockchain state and wire communication within Cosmos SDK.
- Beam introduces Shaders, a common shader used as a smart contract and vault shader which emulates an account-based value transfer.
- Chainlink publishes their DeFi Yield Farming Explained article in light of their DeFi series and all of the recent events over the past few months.
- Synthetix has launched the second phase of their Optimistic Ethereum trial with Optimism. This phase includes the migration from layer-1 to layer-2.
- Monero will upgrade this coming Saturday, October 17th to “Oxygen Orion”!
- Index Coop launches the Index Cooperative, formerly known as “Owl Finance”. This global community will launch and maintain some of the best crypto index vehicles on Ethereum.
- Shell Protocol launches its first stablecoin liquidity pool.
- The Graph announces that they are bringing scalable state channels to Ethereum in partnership with State Channels in the ConsenSys Mesh R&D group and Connext.
- Kyber Network releases their latest update on delivering a sustainable liquidity infrastructure for DeFi.

- Coinbase Wallet natively integrates Optimistic Ethereum testnet! Users will be able to view their balances and send transactions safely and securely. It has been integrated with Synthetix’s Mintr frontend and is live on testnet today.
- CoinDesk reports that Gate.io has unveiled a pocket-sized solution for crypto holders with fingerprint recognition.
- Covalent closes $3.1M in funding co-led by investors Woodstock Fund, 1kx Capital and Mechanism Capital. The new funding will be used to advance product and market development to cement Covalent’s leadership in DeFi data analytics.
