Bitcoin:
- Bitcoin Optech Newsletter is providing a weekly series on how developers and service providers can prepare for the upcoming Taproot activation.
- Rust-Bitcoin releases v0.27.0 which adds support for bech32m addresses.
- River Financial brings seamless Lightning network transaction functionality to their iOS app.
- BTCPay Server shares support for both receiving and sending to Taproot addresses which will go live at block height 709632.
- In March, I noted that the Lightning network held a capacity of 1,161.6 BTC. As of today, only four months later the Lightning network now has a capacity of 2,028.344 BTC with a massive jump in additional nodes and channels! It’s just the beginning.
Ethereum:
- A consensus bug was found on the Ropsten testnet within Geth, thankfully as via another client due to client diversity. The bug was uncovered by OpenEthereum and Besu rejecting block 10679538.
- Vitalik Buterin gave a talk at EthCC last week discussing things that matter outside of DeFi.
- EIP-3675 has been proposed which is the specification of the consensus mechanism upgrade on Ethereum which introduces “The Merge”, i.e. Proof-of-Stake.
- Ethereum Foundation’s Danny Ryan releases an update on The Merge, Altair progress, and pushes for all eth1 nodes to upgrade for the London fork.
- Ethereum product roadmap was posted for Q3 of 2021.
- Sigma Prime releases their latest update regarding Lighthouse v1.5.0 and more!
Other Chains:
- Monero identifies a bug in their decoy selection algorithm that may impact a transaction’s privacy.
- StarkWare’s StarkEx v3.0 is now live on mainnet!! This includes layer-1 vaults, SHARP, a new batch-long-flash-loan capability, and more! These advancements will enable DeFi pooling and dAMMs.
- Etherscan releases an update that allows users to search if an address has been used on other EVM compatible chains.
- Chainlink Price Feeds are now live on Avalanche mainnet! This will provide ecosystem developers with seamless access to high quality price reference data across a variety of assets.
- Lido presents a detailed overview of their road to decentralization. This mainly focuses on trustless staking and what encompasses that.
- Saber announces a partnership with BadgerDAO and Ren to bring Interest Bearing Bitcoin (ibBTC) to Solana.

- Binance drops the daily withdrawal limit from 2BTC to 0.06BTC for users that have only completed Basic Account Verification. This change is effective immediately.
- Blockstream unveils Greenlight, a new Lightning service which provides a simple, secure access to the Lightning Network - allowing anyone to spin up their Lightning node in the cloud while retaining complete control of funds.

- Sevenlabs’ True Decentralized Exchange (TDEX) launches its hybrid mobile app for the first decentralized exchange protocol built on the Liquid Network.
- Saber has raised $7M from Social Capital, Jump Capital, and more! Saber is a Solana based cross-chain exchange for swapping stablecoins and wrapped tokens.
- Former Google Distinguished Engineer and Dropbox CTO and SVP, Bharat Mediratta, joins Coinbase as Fellow to bring technical experience to the company. The role is expected to drive technical strategy and be a key technical contributor in crucial areas.
