Bitcoin:
- Segregated Witness, SegWit, which launched in August of 2017 has been a struggle for various services and wallets to support. Bisq has finally added support for it three years later.
Litecoin:
- David Burkett releases his August update on Litecoin’s integration of Mimblewimble. Nodes are now able to sync and verify the initial state. UTXO management logic has been improved and they are estimating for Mimblewimble on LTC testnet around September 30th!
- Litecoin Improvement Proposal (LIP) for one-sided Mimblewimble (MW) transactions makes progress. This would introduce a method for sending transactions on the Mimblewimble Extension Block (MW EB) without the need to build a transaction interactively with the receiving party.
Ethereum:
- Ethereum Foundation releases their latest update recap on Medalla ETH2.0 testnet, client diversity, and the full end-to-end demo of ETH1.0 + ETH2.0.
- Ben Edgington releases an article on shuffling in ETH2.0. Shuffling is a fundamental operation in ETH2.0 which pseudo-randomly assigns validators to the committees that operate during every 12-second slot, but also to select the beacon chain block proposer at each slot.
- TurboGeth releases v2020.09.01-alpha which is based off of geth v1.9.20. This provides a few new RPC APIs as well as updated documentation.
- Check out Alexandria, an overlay network to the Discovery v5.1 network which facilitates distributed storage and retrieval of historical chain data for Ethereum.
- Ethereum Foundation shares their latest ecosystem support program’s allocation update.
Other Chains:
- As Ethereum’s gas costs have risen dramatically, 0x publishes an examination of both layer-1 and layer-2 options and their preferred strategy for attacking this issue.
- Wasabi Wallet releases info on WVE-005 responsible disclosure and v4 hard fork. On May 10, 2020 Ondřej Vejpustek from TREZOR contacted Wasabi Wallet via a PGP encrypted message detailing a possible CoinJoin denial of service vulnerability, in accordance with their responsible security disclosure policy. - The first CSLAG transaction was recently performed on the Monero testnet!
- Beam releases their latest roadmap and the next major release, Eager Electron 5.1!
- The Teller protocol is gearing up to go live with three cryptocurrency price feeds via Chainlink’s Price Reference Data oracle networks. These feeds include DAI, ETH, USDC, and LINK.
- OpenDEX has launched The Decentralized Exchange Standard with the goal to create a single global DEX network. The first stable release of xud was launched, which is the reference implementation of OpenDEX. This enables native cross-chain trades, instant settlement via the Lightning and Connext networks, and more.

- ConsenSys Diligence releases their latest Smart Contract Security newsletter.
- Oasis Foundation introduces ROSE, the token powering Oasis Network and a new data economy.
- The Electric Coin Company releases v4.0.0 which supports the Canopy activation on mainnet which will occur at block height 1046400 (estimated around mid-November 2020).
- September 1st, 2020 marked the start of the NuCypher WorkLock launch. WorkLock is a novel node distribution mechanism that will be used to launch the network. Users participate in the WorkLock bid by locking ETH into a smart contract in order to receive NU tokens and use them to run NuCypher (Ursula) nodes.
- Opium Protocol launches first Credit Default Swap (CDS) on a centralized stablecoin - USDT.
- Barry Gitarts shares a DeFi lifecycle diagram of ETH to yETH via Yearn Vault.
- The Graph’s hosted service is now processing 220M+ queries/day with roughly 4B in August.
- MetaMask announces the launch of MetaMask Mobile! Users can download the app and take Web3 with them, wherever. It is now available on both iOS and Android.
- The Ethereum Name Service (ENS), a Web3-based technology that uses Ethereum to allow users to assign one or more blockchain addresses to human-readable names, has been selected as a recipient of the Chainlink Community Grant Program.

- With the launch of uUSDrBTC-OCT on UMA protocol it is now possible to leverage Bitcoin permissionlessly on the Ethereum network. One can mint renBTC from Bitcoin, lock that renBTC into UMA - and use that as collateral to mint uUSD which can then be used to purchase more renBTC. - CoinDesk reports multiple occurrences of authorities reportedly seizing Bithumb, one of South Korea’s biggest crypto exchanges by trading volume. Full report here.
- Coinberry announces that they have acquired a Financial Institution Bond, underwritten by Lloyd’s of London. The financial bond, which is a requirement for registration with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), protects Coinberry and customers assets from insider exit scams or criminal acts.
- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced on September 2nd, 2020 that it has approved an Amended Order of Registration for LedgerX, LLC. This allows LedgerX, the company behind the Ledger hardware wallets to clear additional products, subject to the terms of the order, as a derivative clearing organization under the Commodity Exchange Act.
- The MobileCoin Foundation welcomes Sara Drakeley Hall as the MobileCoin Foundation’s Tech Advisory Committee Chair.
- Bitgate selects BitGo for it’s self-managed custody solution to meet Japan’s FSA regulations.
- The governor of the Bank of England (BoE) has stated stablecoins need global regulation in the latest Virtual Event speech from September 3rd, 2020.
- Coinbase lists Celo under the (CGLD) ticker symbol. Celo has been under a lot of attention as one of the major new blockchains as they aim to make it easy for anyone with a smartphone to send, receive, and store stablecoins running on Celo without using a crypto wallet.
- The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world, is calling on Coinbase to start releasing regular transparency reports that provide insight into how many government requests for information it receives and how it deals with them.
- On September 11th, 2020, BitMEX will list four new altcoin/USDT underlying quanto futures contracts for EOS Token (EOS), Chainlink (LINK), Tezos (XTZ), and Cardano (ADA).
- Binance launches a new trading platform that allows users to reap the benefits of DeFi services. Binance BSwap will allow users to pool tokens for easy earning and instant liquidity. This is the same model used by Uniswap and Sushiswap.
- Swiss canton Zug is set to accept BTC and ETH for tax payments starting next year.
- The Block states that Tether is now planning to add support for zk-rollups to reduce pressure on Ethereum.
